Comfused about OBDI or OBDII

OK....I've done the search here on the forums about which one my blazer has, The OBDI or the OBDII. Everyone says that if it's mounted under the dash its an OBDI (which mine is) and if it's mounted onto the overflow tank under the hood its an OBDII.

But....I took my blazer to the shop to have the ABS codes read and the tech said it was an OBDII and read the codes for me. When I latter took it to Autozone for them to read the codes I told them it was an OBDII but their scaner couldn't link to my ECM.

So which is it? I have the 16 pin conector under the drivers side dash like the OBDII but the OBDII scanner won't work. But the tech at the auto shop read it as an OBDII with his scanner. I'm trying to clear the ABS codes off since i have fixed the wheel sensor but the light is still on and won't clear by disconnecting the battery. (left it disconnected over night and didn't clear any codes)

I'm also trying to find any freeware for my laptop to read or clear any codes i might have since unhooking the battery doesnt work.

Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.

Re: Comfused about OBDI or OBDII

could it possably be an "in between" of OBD1 and OBD2? I know that 1995 is when they switched things over to obd2, and have heard cases around here of when the OBD2 scanner plugs in, but its actually an OBD1, and the OBD2 scanner can only pick it up the OBD1 codes. I dont know. Just a thought.

Re: Comfused about OBDI or OBDII

No 96 was the first year of OBDII the only case that would happen is if you bought a 96 blazer in 95. Other than that his should be OBDI. That and there are different scanner plugs for certain types of cars. Had to buy one from the dealer for my moms POS KIA.

No, my 1995 is OBDII and can only be read by an OBDII reader.

If it is under the dash it is OBDI.

If it is near the coolant recovery tank, it is OBDII.

Some what, there is also a 95 that has the ODBI computer (under the dash) but uses an ODBII ALDL...

My truck fits this category. Needs a very specialized pin-card adaptor inserted into an OBD-II style connector to pull the DTC's.
