Porsche 944 versus Nissan 300zx
I like both these cars, they're basic style is 15-20 years old, and they both have a NA & Turbo version. So what do you think. 0-60 times or HP don't mean near as much to me as the fact that both these vehicles are more pure sports cars that are fun to drive. Any ideas on better handling, maintenance, reliablility, costs to own, and high-end power between these two?
Thanks in advance. |

the Porsche will be a better performer but the Z will be more reliable and much cheaper to maintain and buy. i think the Porsche turbo's average mid 14's to high 14's depending on the years. they received a HP bump in on of the later years but these later years also seem to be in a higher price range. the Z31T runs a high 14 and wont handle as well as the Porsche. but the Z31T can be modified into the 13's with a few basic upgrades that dont have to cost over $1000. parts will be cheaper for the Z31, aftermarket and OEM. my personal opinion would be go with teh Porsche if you want to spend the couple extra thousand to buy a nice one in the first place and if you have the money to maintain it. the main reason why i would choose the 944 is because i would use it is a strictly track car...its light, great handling, and makes for an all around good track car. but if this were to be a daily driver and something just to play around in and modify easily...i would choose a 87-89 Z31. the Z31T will be able to achieve more power in the long run because it has more displacement and it is a very easy car to modify. the porsche can be modified well but i dont think as easy as the Z31T.

Re: Porsche 944 versus Nissan 300zx
Thanks for the comments. But I'm not thinking of just the 944 versus the Z31. How about the 951 and/or 968 versus the 90-96 300zx, both turbo & NA.

Re: Porsche 944 versus Nissan 300zx
I'd say from that list, the 968 CS would be the ultimate victor, good as the others were, the 968 was almost unmatchable as a good FR drive back when it was new.

Re: Porsche 944 versus Nissan 300zx
With those criterion, the 300ZX TT is by far the best option. For maintainence, you're a lot better off with a 1995 or earlier, as some of the OBD2 compliance parts on the 96 are very hard to find.
