Re: 98 GS couple???'s

How many miles are on your Regal? And when was the last time you had the tranny serviced with new ATF and a filter?

On the dual automatic climate control, you can override auto and go to manual to direct the air flow where you want it. To get to the modes, press AIR FLOW. You will get the follwing options on the digital display:

windshield/floor
mid/floor
mid
floor

Mid will direct air flow out the dash/instruments panel vents only.

In manual you should have full control of heating, venting and A/C. Is the air flow only coming out of the windshield vents?

All RECIRC does is recirculate inside air instead of taking it from outside.
It only works in WINDSHIELD/FLOOR mode when the compressor is on.

It sounds like your vent actuators may not be working correctly. It could be the HVAC Head Unit itself or a loss of vacuum to control the actuators or a defective actuator. A single vacuum line in the main wiring harness from the intake system feeds vacuum to the actuators. It enters the cabin via the firewall. Its routed by the battery so make sure it isn't damaged.

With the tranny harsh downshift problem, you might consider getting the ATF changed out along with a new screen filter since you don't know the maintenance history. I'd recommend using an AC Delco filter only. Also, it wouldn't hurt to add a tranny additive such as Lubegard or Sea Foam. The system will need approximately 7.5 quarts of ATF (Dextron-III) after a pan drop.

The good part is at least the tranny is working considering your mileage. Lots of horror stories on the 4T65E tranny. Good luck!

The GS has the RPO MN7 4T65E-HD which is a heavy duty version.

However, it is still subject to the same problems. There are several GM Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) out on the transmission. Although it could be an engine or tranny mount, the downshifts, if your tranny was 100%, should be seamless. I almost never feel the downshifts in my Regal GS or my wife's LS unless I do it manually.

Overall the '97 and up Regals including the L67 supercharged are pretty reliable but the weak link IMO is the transmission.

The only thing I can suggest is the window regulator. It has been a problem on '97 and up Regals depending on the age of the car. The best thing to do is remove the door panel and do a further inspection. There is one screw behind the door handle, also screws where the hand hold is. The panel is held on by standard GM plastic snap on clips. The tool is relatively inexpensive. Once everything is undone you the panel pull up and out. There is plastic protective membrane covering the power window mechanism that may have to be removed. Good Luck!
