1999 Camrey CE radio code?

I need to disconnect my battery to do some work, and Haynes says the radio MIGHT have a security code. I asked my local "friendly" Toyota dealer, and they were totally unhelpful. (They did, of course, tell me that they could reprogram the code - if it has one - for 40 bucks or so!)

I'm just trying to find out whether the radio has a security code or not. If it does, then so be it - I'll wait until I have time to get the kit to mount my after-market unit, and I'll just throw the Toyota one away.

Hello AccordCodger, I searched this forum and it had 2 posts other than yours about this subject. apperently once you have the code/codes you can enter them yourself. I did a google search online and it seems that you cant get the code/codes for free.

Hmmm. maybe you can hook just your radio up to a seprate 12 volt sorce (voltage regulator,battery charger,extra battery) before you disconnect your battery. that way your radio doesn't lose it's security code. just an idea. good luck.

Yeah - but if I had the code there wouldn't be a problem.

Hooking up 12v might be a bit of a challenge. I guess I could do it at the fusebox, but if I lose the code instantly when I pull the fuse, that won't help either.

But the big question, which apparently no one (including the Toyota dealer) can answer is whether this unit even HAS a security code.

If it's the original unit, then I guarantee it does not have a code.

Well, that's good news. My Haynes says "some" models have a code, so when you say mine doesn't have one, are you saying the low-end (kind-of) model in the CE doesn't have one?

BTW I always thought security codes on (most) stock radios were pretty stupid - the ones that get stolen tend to be the after-market ones.

I would never call a "CE" low end. Toyota didn't put the codes in any 1999 Camry radio.
Here's a basic list of Toyota radio head unit manufacturers. Match the first digit of the model number on the faceplate to the corresponding manufacturer below.
• 1,2,3, or "A1", "A2", "A3" = Fujitsu-Ten
• 5,6,7, or "A5", "A6", "A7" = Panasonic
• "AD" = Delco
• “L” = Alpine (Dealership Installed 3-Disc CD Changers only)
• Matrix Audio System with DVD Navigation = Delphi
Toyota JBL audio systems include JBL speaker and tuning components. JBL does not manufacture the actual head units.

More info. Confirming what you told me, csaxon ---- my Haynes says that units with "anti theft protection" on the cassette slot cover have a code. Mine doesn't. (It says something about logic - I just went outside to look, but my short-term memory isn't what it used to be!)

Then your radio doesn't have a security code, daniyar. zaldy62ph's obviously does.
