Where do I get a spare key and remote keyless for a 2001 Accord EX coupe

I lost my key and remote keyless entry. I went to Home Deport and got a key made. It opens the door, turns the starter over when I try to start the car with the spare, but the car won't start.

If I use the original key it start right up.

Is there a transponder in the key ?

Do I need to go to the dealer?

Abhi

yes, there is a chip in the key that needs to be there for it to start, the remote for my 2000 was around 75 dollars, and I don't know how much the key is, but the dealer is the best bet

You may need to go to the dealer to get the key. It may have a built in resistor that interacts with the immolbilzer circuitry. In later model cars, the key has to fit exactly and the resistor has to be an exact match or the car won't start. The dealer can look up in the manufacturer's logs, select the correct blank and they cut the key based on the key number. They can also sell you a wireless remote and program your car to operate with the remote.

You DO need to go to the dealer for a key. The 98-02 EX has an immobilizer system which means chip in the key. If you do not have ANY other keys that work (although you should if you made a copy) you can call your local Honda dealership. (we did this on our 00 Accord EX sedan). They will give you a code that involves a sequence code of turning the key and pressing the brake pedal which will turn off your immobilizer system temporarily to allow you to drive the car to the dealership or home. The code is specific to your Accord by the VIN number.

If you need a remote, I found there here for 1/3 the price - LINK
