So I just bought this slightly tweeked '96 Civic: lowered to 2"clearance; - K&N intake etc.;Headers, and was going very well. The seller told me he swapped this original motor back in after having put 80K on it with a B16; I have little reason to doubt this.
My take is that the Oxygen sensor is somewhere else, as there are four cut wires at the top front of the bell-housing, and there's the rub. One moment everything was working fine (well, the A/F indicator is a light show really, but gets pegged correctly when you stomp on it), and then poof: A/F indicator went flat, speedometer went flat, but after warming up it becomes intermittant, and the Check Engine light is always aglow now. I suspect an open ground somewhere, but where is there commonality with the speedo and the oxygen sensor? Where is the oxygen sensor now located with the after market headers? I understand that black wires are ground, purple is the oxgen sensor signal, and well, HELP! I've found no speed shops around, and when I drag it into a regular Honda shop they tell me how this is going to take some "homework", and, well: Big Bucks. The headers and the K&N all have stamps on them that indicate smog legal licensure by the way. Any advice greatly appreciated! Also, when the car is so damn low to the ground, at what structural point do I choose to jack it up? Thanking you in advance, RC |

Re: 96 semi-stock civic lost speedo,A/F light show,etc.
pull CEL.
o2 sensor on your 96 is on the header and the cat. your AF gauge hooks up to the primary. if you cant find it, trace the wire harness. if you have four cut wires for the primary o2 sensor, then, how did you run the AF gauge in the first place????????????????? as for both speedo check 12v and ground. as for the previous b16 swap, what b16 was it? so what engine are you running? as for wiring issues, here is a downlaodable helms for diagrams. http://forums.clubsi.com/showflat.ph...87&an=0&page=0 car can be jacked from any of the four jackpoints under the car, or jack from the frame.

Hey thanks for the info and site ref; There is NO sensor (in sight) on the header, or immediately after it when looking under the car. I'll try to follow the wires, and jack up the car so I can figure out if there is only one sensor... The engine is completely stock, or so I'm given to understand; broad unfished smooth valve cover with the plugs in a row in the back. I really don't know if the wires were ripped from the four (usual sensor location, fell off... just don't know. FF |
