Blowing fule pump fuses

My 98' windstar has 77,000mi without a lick of problems. All of a sudden its blowing fuel pump fuses every 3 or 4 miles. Pull over and pop another fuse in and go another 3 or4 miles. Already replaced filter under van along the frame. some have suggested replacing fuel pump but was;nt sure that would do it either. Fuel pumps about 155.00 and dropping tank. Is anyone else run into this problem with thier windstar?I just don't know anything else to do. Please help. Thanks E-mail me at [email protected]

I have a 97geo metro and just had my fuel pump and fuel injector replace and now my fuse to my fuel pump keeps blowing out. So I dont think you would need to replace the fuel pump or the fuel injector. If you get a answer to your question can you please e-mail me.

If I had this problem, I would try to disconnect the pump without dropping the tank ... if possible. If no wiring connector available, I would cut (and later repair) the harness near the tank.

After "disconnecting" the pump, if the fuse "holds" .... the pump is very suspect!

Just had my 98 winnie in the shop for the same reason....fuel pump fixed it. I have 135,000 on mine. I was not sure I could get the tank out on my own so I had the dealer do it.......$625.00 later i was back on the road.

I believe there are now aftermarket replacement pumps avail that are much less in price ... these include the pump only, the rest of the pump/sender unit is reused. The inlet screen must be purchased separately ... but is only a few bucks. But I bought the Ford unit before the aftermarkets were avail.

Dropping the tank is quite a pain. (I've done it.) The rear of the van needs to be pretty far off the ground .... and the rear wheels may still get in the way. Be sure to use good large capacity jack stands.

Just a question like that 120unce, would you trust an aftermaket unit compare to a motorcraft unit?

I have used fuel pump replacement units from AutoZone to repair other autos. AutoZone doesn't sell the "whole" unit ... only the pump element. Seems to work well.
