Engine Swap 4g63GTE

Ok I have a question. I have been looking around try to search for some answer on the forum and have not had much luck. If I missed an old post on this I do appoligize. I want to do a motor swap on my 2k1 GT Eclipse. At first I wanted to go with the 6G72TT. However after doing some research on the forums I found alot of thing that would highly persaude me to go a different option. Then I though about swapping out the motor with the 4G63GTE. What I am wondering is if this is something that is possible and if so what modifications am I going to have to make to the car to complete this swap. I know there are options out there like tearstones kit and the SDS Superchagers but I want to do something a little unique. Any helpful information would be highly appricated, or if this has been discussed in the past and I happened to miss the conversation could you please just send me a link to the post.

Thanks,

Alan

Re: Engine Swap 4g63GTE

there is no such thing as a 4g63GTE, there IS a 4g63T however.

a 4g64 engine (eclipse GS/RS) would be easier to come by at this point and more likely cheaper and is basically just an over bored 4g63 block w/ a sohc, so if you wanted to go unique, swap the head from the 63,do a lot of custom work, turbo charge it the right way the first time w/ parts from a 63 setup and you've got a turbo 4g64/3 hybrid motor

Re: Engine Swap 4g63GTE

Here is the site that has the motor that I am looking at. They called it 4g63gte so that's way I posted it as that. Here is the link http://www.sunrisejdmmotors.com/mitsubishi.php
besides I would rather had the dohc motor over a sohc

Re: Engine Swap 4g63GTE

SBR sells excellent block packages...everything from staged 2.0L blocks, to 2.3L and 2.4L strokers, and a new insane high-revving 2.1L destroked motor. Check them out if youve got the time.

eidt: oh wait, you want to drop that in a 3G? Yeah, thats going to require a lot of cutom shiz. Actually, come to think about it, have there even been any documented swaps?

Re: Engine Swap 4g63GTE

not that i've ever seen, and the 4g63gte they have there is normally just called the "jdm cyclone 4g63" lose the gte part, you'll confuse a whole buncha people

really there isn't a replacement for displacement, if you want to be unique, keep your car, buy a mirage (97-01 is the evo style one) buy that motor, awd trans, and custom fab a AWD drivetrain for it, i think that would be sick and a lot more worth it

Re: Engine Swap 4g63GTE

What is the engine code for that motor. Would that sit on the same motor monts and everything as my 6G72 would, diffently would be willing to look into that

I would disagree . Forced induction is the universal answer to displacement.

the 4g64? NO i won't bolt right up, it might be very expensive to swap i'd buy an eclipse 00-05 eclipse RS if i were you, just trade them in or a 96-99 eclipse GS spyder has that motor too, turbo charging them is also somewhat easier bcuz u can use the 4g63 manifolds and stuff

and shpyder, ur right, the honda guys say the replacement for displacement is volumetric efficiency, boost doesn't hurt though but if you don't have boost then your sluggish (IE turbo lag)

Nah if that is the case then I would probably just save up for an SDS Stage 3 or Tearstone's Kit. Hey buy the way do you kow if they are still making the stage 3 kit last time I went to rippmodds they had up too the Stage 2 Kit and that was it.

Re: Engine Swap 4g63GTE

there should still be a stage 3 kit, honestly i wouldn't go supercharged though, i prefer turbo, upgrade the pistons and fuel system and you can just turn up the boost whenever you want instead of buying a new "stage" , AND! gas mileage stays the same as long as you aren't boosting

BTW i have infinite turbo lag

no...they are not selling the stage 3 anymore. but they are selling the parts individually to turn a stage 2 into a stage 3.

Sigh... the car's been in the shop for a month, and we're waiting on SBR. They said that they had to build 11 race heads this month, so they're a bit backed up on parts. It should be shipped in about 2 more weeks, but at this rate, they arent giving me a full heads up. I went all out with a stage III race head with cams and everything, so theyr'e taking a while trying to get the springs and retainers. I just can't wait!!!! (I'm so sick of driving my brothers auto civic, lmao, but at least I'm not walking to college, haha).

Re: Engine Swap 4g63GTE

Hey I have a 99 spyder with a bad engine. I'm going to get rid of the old one and put in a new one. it had a 4G63T in it but that particular engine has problems being that all the blocks were honed wrong, therefore causing crankwalk. is there an alternative without loosing the power? can i put a 1st gen motor in it? any other sugestions would b great.....

Not many 1g and 2g owners come to the 3g Eclipse section, so your lucky I was browsing through here.

If you wanna make more threads with questions and such, it would better be posted in this area of AF ----> Eclipse/Talon/Laser Just though I'd throw ya in the right direction for your future posts.

To answer your question though. You are best off sticking with the 4g63t. I also had crankwalk kill my 97 and I have put in a 4g63t from the 1g's. It has to be a 90-92.5 year model though to have the 6 bolt motor which didn't get crankwalk. (All 2g's come with a 7 bolt 4g63t.)

More questions, feel free to send me a PM or post in the area I gave you the link to above.
