door locking problem

okay the handle broke for my lumina a year ago and i replaced it. The day i replaced it i found i couldn't unlock my door. After many hours of messing with the car door i got it open (due to the fact if its locked it won't open from outside or inside!). I found out that this hammer arm mechanism in the handle was not rotating preventing me from unlocking or opening the door.

It has now hapened again, does anyone have any solutions for quickly getting the door open. I can get the door panel on the inside open easily but not off because of the door being closed...

I hope someone has a solution for this problem. If i have to go out and buy a tool for easily doing this or someone has a quick solution for it i would appreciatte it. thx
