Howcome the Z24 V6 sounds so nice?

I was sitting at a stoplight the other day, and i hear this low rumble and coulda sworn it was a V8......but it turned out to be a Z24!!! Many a times have i heard that muscle car voice coming from these lil beasts. I'm wondering, why do their engines sound so nice? Howcome they do not sound like the 3.8 V6, also from GM? Or even the Ford 3.8? Those have a very 6ish sound, while the cavalier has a very 8 sound. Strange..

Re: Howcome the Z24 V6 sounds so nice?

The end result of a factory tuned exhaust that they didn't have in the 95+ years. The 3.1 sounded the nicest with the 3 inch pipe coming off the headders and collecting in to a 2.25" stainless exhaust...mmmm....throaty.

Try taking the cat of of it like I did with my old one. That think will friggin BARK at people, it's crazy how beefy it'll sound.

wow, sweet. I mean, for stock, the thing sounds throaty enuff. I went on holiday in quebec, and then this Z24 drives past me and with an aftermarket exhaust, that thing sounds insane. Exactly like a kind of mini V8.

Yeah I've heard them hum loudly by me too. Of course its when my car isnt running that I hear them, otherwise my Beretta with its 2.8 (which get that distinct super loud sound after a good 100k) is all I hear.

I've had a similiar experience. We'd rev engines in the parking lot at school. My old Z24 was alot louder than many of the trucks. Eventually I replaced the exhaust with dual when it was starting to rust away. I don't believe it was quite as loud then.
