My new Silverado

Hey everyone, I just bought my 2005 Silverado on the employee purchase plan. I couldnt resist any longer, ever since I sold my 98 K1500 I've missed it. This should fill the gap!

Im not entirely new to the forums, just to the Silverado portion. Let me know what ya think!

Re: Re: My new Silverado

Pshh, Ford yeah right, ive owned several GM's (97 Sierra Ext cab Z-71, 98 Silverado Ext Cab Z-71 and a 99 Suburban 4x4 LT)

The truck has been great so far, its got quite a few extras, basicly the only thing I'm without is the bose stereo (which I've heard has quite a few bugs), XM, and leather interior. All I really wanted was the crew cab Z-71 with the steering controlls for the radio and DIC.

A lift was in-line and I was looking into superchargers, but with the direction gas is going, I've taken a step back for the time being. Who knows, but these tires, I'm not too sure about them, I've always taken the stock off right away and replaced them with BFG A/T's... Anyone have much experience with the Dueller A/T's it came with as stock??

I'll most likley have the exhaust done in the comming weeks, muffler recomendations?? I want a nice deep tone, but not too obtrusive. My 98 had true dual straight pipes out the back corners, now that was a tadd loud. This one I'm Either going duals out the back under the bumper or out the side angled right to the corners...

Re: My new Silverado

I've got the Flowmasters which split coming off the muffler (Flowmaster, 3 chamber) and straight out the back. It has the sound, but isn't too loud. With the FIPK it sounds really sweet. Since the cold air intake helps with power (and miledge) it actually helps hold back the sound a bit...until you really want it if you know what I mean. The exhaust manafolds on the recent models are supposed to be comparable to shorty headers. I've also head positive things about the Gibson Dual Exhaust (but I haven't heard too much here).
My ride is 3 yrs old now with 30,000. I hope to replace the wheels and tires in the next 6 months along with a few other goodies. I've never had as much fun with a vehicle as I have with this truck and I've owned cars now for 34 yrs (I once had a '59 Ford country sedan wagon with a stock 351 in high school). My friends always used to refer to it a "the tank". Gas was also $.25 a gallon then...Aaaaahhh, the memories!!!

Re: My new Silverado

Congrats on the New Toy.

When looking towards exhaust there are 2 words, Stainless Steel. You get what you pay for and if rust is prevelant in your area SS will keep that under control.

Look at the STS turbo instead of the supercharger. You can get the power, ease of self installation, and the biggest - MPG gain.

When I was looking for my beast it was cheaper to get the truck with Bose, XM, On-Star, dealer installed folding mirrors and buckets than the folding mirrors and 40-20-40 seat. Go figure the discounts would actually help me. Southwest discount and Safe and Sound dicount made it $500 cheaper when all was said and done when both have the Performance Package (AKA 345 hp 2wd power block).

Again Congrats and enjoy before Gas becomes a Museum item....

Very nice truck, congrats.

My 05 Z71 has the same tires, I was thinking Ill replace them w/ BFG AT
tires also, but decided to wait awhile. We just came back from Gold Lake here in CA, and there are some serious 4X4 trails up there. We ended up on a road that if I new about I wouldnt have taken my new truck on, but once you are on it it is either back up the whole way or go until you can find a spot to turn around. I was too far into it by now and backing up put me at more risk of doing damage so I had to move on in 4WD Low till I could turn around, which was awhile.
My stock Silverado Z71 with the stock tires handled the small and large rocks and road (if you want to call it a road) way better then expected. I had to take it slow and easy because of the clearance issues but I was impressed, not a scrath on the truck thank God. I wont be doing that again any time soon.

Yea, not too many people seem to have them on here, I personally have no problems with mine, nice tone, not extremely loud unless u want it to be ( if u know what i mean). I definetly felt a jump in performance after putting the system on. I like that its not a chamber muffler, you can see straight through it. And yes, always go with stainless!

Re: My new Silverado

DO NOT get a Flowmaster 40 series. IT sucks BAD, and it loud as hell. The interior resonance was horrible when I had my cats on, and now its deafning with them removed.

I have a single in/dual out flowmaster on my truck that the previous owner installed... any way to tell if it is a 40 series? Whatever it is, I like it.

Well, I've had my flowmaster on mine (that I know of) for the 6 months that I've owned the truck, but there's no telling when the previous owner installed it. Still has a nice, deep sound. Unfortunately, I have not been able to set any car alarms off in any parking garages with it.

My Flowmaster's have been on for 3 years now. Still sounds gret, still works gret. I have no Idea what series they are, but they appear to be steel!!
