How much hp?

I got a stock 390 FE in my 73 F250. It's got equal length header with 1.75" primaries/2.5" collector flange and 2.5 exuahst with glasspacks which goues out the full length to the rear. My question is how much poer does this thing got, it feels slow, sure it's a big truck, but that engine is huge compared to todays standards. I don't really know my Fords that well, so can somebody help me out here?

So:
Torque?
Horsepower?

Re: How much hp?

I would only be guessing but I think it only has about 250hp if that. Is there any mods done to the engine other than what you have listed.

Re: How much hp?

Your truck probably is not set up with the right rear end gears, thats why it doesn't seem powerful. Your gearing is in the 2.50:1-3.00:1 ratio. You would need at least a 3.55:1 ratio to make it peppier

No there is nothing else done to it, I just bought it and that's what was already done. I was planning on getting new rearend gearing, (like 3.73?)
a mild cam and a 600cfm carb.

A 3.73 would be a nice rearend gear to stick in it. But you will sacrifice some gas mileage. In addition I would change the rearend gear befor you do anything else. You may find that you like the way it performs the way it is with the new gear.

Re: How much hp?

Were the tires changed to larger tires? this is also one way that people think they'll get more power and get exactly the opposite... my own son, for example lol. tall gears dont like tall tires...

The tires are actually smaller than stock. I dont know what this person was thinking who owned it before me. Work truck with electric fuel pump, headers, glasspacks, distributor too far advanced? Little tires?!?
