Temp gauge & Hazard lights

Hello all.
I have purchased an 88 jeep Cherokee which on first inspection, only had a few issues, but they keep growing. My current problem is with the temp gauge which is not working. When I purchased the vehicle; the serpentine belt was broken due to the a/c compressor locking up. I then found that the water resevoir bottle was also split. These problems have been fixed as well as a new thermostat put in. Where/what do I check to repair the temp gauge?

My other problem is the hazard lights. I checked the fuses & found it was missing the fuse for the hazard lights which I replaced, but as soon as I did, the hazard lights came on and will not go off. Is this a problem with the control knob or something else?

If anyone has had these problems in the past...please give me your input. Thanks in advance.

Wow, where to begin:

OK, the temp sending unit is located on the cylinder head, driver side at the rear, near the firewall. It's next to one of the bolts that holds on the valve cover. Check to make sure the wire on top is connected.

Hazards: Sounds like either the switch is bad or there is a short somewhere.

The water bottle being split may indicate a severe overheat condition since the belt was broken. You may have more problems awaiting you.

I suggest you change the oil and note it's condition. Does it smell "funny" or just like oil. How does it feel when you rub it between your fingers?

There is a temp sensor (if you have a inline 6 cyl) on rear of engine/drivers side next to valve cover..it is only around $10 for the sensor.....its not too hard to change but BE CAREFUL putting new one in...I torqued mine too hard and broke the nut!....Another thing is check wiring from sensor to gauge.....last thing would be a bad gauge...Good Luck!.....

Thank you so much for the replies. I will purchase the temp sending unit tomorrow and attempt to install. Hopefully it will go without a hitch. Otherwise, I will be posting again. After I tackle that problem, I will attempt the hazard lights. Yes, my jeep is a 6 cylinder (inline). Should have mentioned that earlier. Again, Thanks, till tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.
