Unhappy Help with LHS troubles !!!

Hi,

I just bought a 1994 LHS in mint condition for $500 dollors but i need some help.

When i start the car it makes this sound not so much like a knock but a rattle clanking sound, the oil light never comes on neather dose the engine light, if im at a light the car will make that same sound, i have had people tell me its the starter then some say its the heat sheild or exuast, but i cant find any thing with exuast that is lose.

When im driving on the highway it runs like new no sound or rattles clanking at all , it has lots of power from take off and makes no sound, but when i start it idle at a light or turn off the car i get this clanking sound.

also i have been seeing a good amount of oil on the drive way.

Please help i hate to get rid of the car if it can be fixed cheap or if its nothing major becuase the car is in mint condition.

it has 129,000 miles and the oil looks very clean.

Thanks in advace.

Re: Help with LHS troubles !!!

you probably have a worn exhaust, that will cause a rattle at idle. I helped a buddy out by changing out his exhaust on his '95 Intrepid 3.5 b/c it had the same exact problem that you are having, a light rattle at idle. After we put the new exhaust on, it ran so quiet, we had to look down at the tachometer just to make sure the engine is running. The oil problem, find out where exactly is it at, is it towards the back of the engine, the front or all around. Could be a number of things, bad rear main seal, front oil seal, oil pan gasket, or even the drain plug washer is worn.

I was also told it was the main baring, i did notice that its leaking oil between the transmission and the engine from a silver metal plate.
