fuel mileage

just bought a 2005 silverado 4x4 ext cab with 5.3L (310hp version) auto trans, 4.10 gears. Truck now has 1600kM on odometer.
Fuelled up and drove 560km at 110kph give or take. Fuelled up and put in 61 ltr fuel. The tank holds 98ltr. Seems pretty good to me. I don't know what the complaints are here on fuel economy unless guys are modding up their trucks and deviating from stock configurations.

If I've done my math right, thats 21mpg, but I'm an idiot with math.
Thats a helluva lot better than I get but I've heard your gas prices are much worse than ours in Virginia. You need good mpg.

Your gas mileage seems pretty damn good to me. Just by coincedence I did a 6 hour trip last weekend, and was doing 110 km/h both ways, set on cruise. My A/C was on low both ways. I drove 646 km's and it took 81 litres to fill. So that's 8.2 km's per litre or about 19.3 mpg i think. My truck is an 04 silv 4.8L 4x4 ext. cab. I guess I should have bought a 5.3L!

Nobody really complains if they've modded their truck. I for one have modded mine to maybe increase mileage and performance, but take Slowprocess for example. He never says a word about mileage and he's modded the hell out of his.

Actually by my calculations your getting about 22.6mpg, not that bad at all.

646KM=404 miles
81L=17.8 imp gal

When I bought mine I was going to get a 4.8L engine but the salesman talked me out of it saying I'd do better with the 5.3L from the dealers experience, as the engine wouldn't be working quite has hard and is not that much bigger than the 4.8L

OOPS, I guess your also correct with your calculations. Up in Canada our imperial gal equals about 4.54L while your US gal equals 3.8L

I would not complain about my mileage if i were on the east coast again, when i was in Virginia and Florida my truck would get between 19 and 20 MPG but now that i live in Hawaii my mileage sucks, i dont know if its the weather, the hills or double the stop and go city traffic. whatever it is i dont like it, but i do love my truck so oh well.

Wait, I thought for a second you tried to say there were such things as highways as we know them. ...
Your right I do remember it is all curvy, city, scenic drives... Beautiful

Last time I filled up at a quarter of a tank at right around 300 miles. That would be 12.5mpg with the 5.3. Pretty shitty, but I've got a lead foot and drive around town 99% of the time.

I'm sure I do need new plugs, wires, compression check, etc, etc, etc. So that would help. But since I'm selling the truck shortly why worry about it.

My uncle averages 21.6 he said. That's all highway with the 5.3L traveling apprx. 80mph.

Re: fuel mileage

The 5.3L in my '01 had a sweet spot at 80 - 85 mph , rpm 2000 - 2300 .... smooth and great mpg right there.
