Raced a stealth

Hello! I am new to the forum.

I raced this sophomore with a stealth R/T (non turbo, manual) tonight. This was my first time really racing.

First run - hands go down, i floored it too hard, my tires spun for a long time up till about 5.5K RPM's. Needless to say, i lost the first run.

Second run - I don't accelerate so hard on the start and ended up killing him, until my car got up to about 75 and my car started to misfire because i had the car floored, but by the time he caught up the race was over anyway.

I was proud of myself because i am just a junior in highschool and I only paid 2750$ for my car and only added some decals, euro tails, injectors, coil, sparks, and wire. And he told me he spent 5000$ on his stealth (seems a little high to me.)

I am looking foward to turning 18 so I can take out a loan to buy the 99-00 Trans Am WS6 I want.

By the way, incase anyone is wondering, Stealth is a 3.0 and run's 6.9's, Camaro 3.8's run 5.9's. (0-60)

Well unless you have the Y87 package on what I'm assuming you have is a 96 Camaro, then I doubt both tires spun. Unless you've upgraded your rearend to a posi unit, then only your right rear tire will spin out.

Why would your car start to misfire because you reached 75 mph? Normally a misfire happens throughout all engine rpm's due to a faulty spark plug, ICM, bad wire, etc..

I'm not too sure about your numbers being right on that. The LT1 averages around 6.3 seconds from 0-60. Now, I'm not too sure about what the 3.8 runs, but it definately can't .6 seconds slower than the LT1. I'd give it a couple more seconds than that. Maybe around 9-10 seconds, that's my guess. You gotta remember, the V6 is having to push all that weight that's normally nothin for the V8.

Sorry, not trying to correct you or anything. Just trying to help you out.

Re: Raced a stealth

My friend back home in IL bought a stealth twin turbo, the engine was bored over and rebuilt, the turbos are new and can push 30lbs each, also with suspension mods and everything, it's QUICK! but he blew the engine so I didn't get a chance to race him yet. It would probably be a close match. His car is just as heavy if not more. But he's pushing a little more horses, just not as much torque. I'd get a better jump but he'd catch up to me.

Stealths are just expensive. Don't know why. Almost bought one once. Then I didn't.

Re: Raced a stealth

hell my 3.8 gets to 60 in under 6 seconds easy!!.... and u are right, right now u are the one wheeled wounder, now i have a rear end out of a formula ta so i have power to both wheels and im sure spinning both wheels is easy for me 2 do. hey i tell u what though, u can make that car run low 13's. good kill though kid, but i suggest u get a cold air intak, good exaust (not just the damn muffler and some tips), find a better cam than that stock one, headers, oh and gears are a must...

well the tail lights really are a mod, its not a performance mod but its still a mod, and the sticker i would peel them off, they only make maros look ugly.

Yeah stickers look bad, unless its a vinyl sticker that really fits like the Monte Carlo race flag stickers. BUT if it has the knight on the side like Fast and the Furious, do us ALL a favor and take it off PLEASE.

I want a stealth though, I think they look cool. As long as it's black.

LT1's bone stock can go to 60 under 6 seconds. Average now, sure may be 6.3 for all out there but mags like Motortrend got 5.5 on them back in 96. Car and Driver got a 5.7 and Road&track also got under 6's. Just food for thought but I agree with everything else.
