Re: help my steering wheel is moving left and right

I would say you need an alignment. This is often a tell tale sign for when your car needs an alignment. Except ussually the steering wheel will tend to turn to one side and you car will pull to one side. I have never heard of a car turning left then right or vis versa. But in my opinion it sounds like an alignment problem. When was the last time you had an alignment done? How old are your tires?

Re: help my steering wheel is moving left and right

What you've described is a typical sympthom of unbalanced tires on the front axle. My best guess is that your tires are wearing unevenly (unaligned, worn tie rods, ball joints, etc...). Uneven tire wear will screw up your balance for obvious reasons.

The dealer would be the last place I'd take any car to unless under warranty. Take your car to a shop/mechanic you trust, get them to inspect all components of your front suspension, and steering. Replace anything that is worn, buy new tires, balance them, and finally do an allignment.

Re: help my steering wheel is moving left and right

An alignment would cost you between 60 and 90 bucks. But sounds like you need some more work than just an alignment.

I know so many people that do exactly this, and end up getting screwed over. One of them even had their tires switched out, and replaced with 4 completely different tires. They didn't notice for 2 weeks until I pointed it out to them. And how are you gonna know they actually did the work? It's pretty easy to say you did this and that, when the person knows nothing about what you did. I don't think there is an honest shop left in Wisconsin, because they know most people that come to them are too stupid to actually check up on what they did to the car. Yeah the dealer will charge you up the ass, but atleast I know the shit gets done, and done right for the most part. I don't have to worry about jacking the car up and looking for new parts.
