Engine swap question.
Hello all...
I am looking to replace the engine in my 95 Jimmy 4.3 4wd. My question is what year(s) gmc engine will fit. I found one out of a 96 model also one out of a 94 w/ low miles. I want to make sure before I dish out the $$ that either will fit. Any help here will be greatly appreciated. |

If your ECM is under the hood, you can upgrade to the 96-98 engine pretty easily...You'll need
ECM Harness Engine... All related sensors May or may not have to add an addition 02 sensor to the mix. Everything is pretty much plug in play. If you don't want to swap the ecm and harness you can use the 92-95 regular CPI motors. If you obtain a regular CPI motor with the top post mount distributor and you have the side post mount distributor on your existing engine you will have to move the following from your old engine. Lower intake Distributor Reluctor wheel All related sensors

Re: Engine swap question.
Is your '95 OBD2? Where is the ECM? Does it have a crank position sensor (in bottom of timing cover)? If not, then go for the '94 engine.
General rules, (which means there are exceptions): An "early 1995" will be same as 1994. A "Late 1995 will have block, pistons, crank of a 1996, and heads/intake/CPI of a 1994. |

Justa thank you...and a ?
I'm kinda financially strapped right now. I'm thinking of replacing the cpi, (second time) and hoping that will do. After 265,000 miles I was flirting w/ a another engine. After looking in to it, maybe not! $$ Also tranny is shot, but I have one located.
Engine was very strong before I parked it. I knew it was the cpi, same exact symptoms of last time, and the tranny was going. Would you fix this thing, lots of engine work (cpi & prob. a little more), new transmission. 265k miles....other than that it is very well maintained since it was new. Body & interior perfect. Thanks for your input. Much appreciated! |

Can you please supply ALL informatio.
What is it doing now? Just because it is running bad doesn't mean you have to replace it.
