Unhappy Help! 7mgte

Ok my supra sucks.

My 1988 supra worked before. Afterwards, it died. It just died on me and couldn't start it back up. When I try starting it back up, it sounds like it's not getting enough fuel for the crank. And when I get it to start, the car will lag if i rev it to 4rpm. It dies afterwards. I was thinking it maybe a clog in the fuel line. Possibly the fuel pressure regulator, any help will be greatly appreciated.

What about the fuel filter? Its a pain to get too, but if it hasn't been replaced in a while it can't hurt.

Re: Help! 7mgte

It worked before what??? It died after what??? What do you mean by the engine lags? What makes you think it is a fuel problem? What checks have you done? There is not enough info.

You should check 3 things: spark, fuel, and compression. Pick up a Haynes manual to help things along. They are only $10.

Check spark: Diconnect each plug wire. Remove a spark plug from the motor. Check each wire by pluging the spark plug into the wire and hold it near the engine block while somone cranks the engine. You will see the spark jump. That tells you spark is good.

While you have the plugs out you can check compression. You can get a tester fairly cheap. If the head gasket is blown, which is rather common on the 7M, you will get the symptoms you describe.

The easiest way to check fuel is to disconnect the fuel retrun line and dangle it in a bucket. Turn on the ingition. If you have a good flow of fuel from the line then you don't have a fuel problem. You can also get a kit that will check pressure at the rail.
