98 Caravan Rad fan

Well the other day I got home and when I turn off the engine, the radiator fan kept working. I thought I would leave it a few minutes. Finally after about 15 minutes of uninterrupted operation I pulled out the 40 AMP fuse. It worked!!

Problem was that then it would not work again. I took it to the mechanic. He tells me that the relay is bad and I said go ahead. Well he calls me back and tells me that the computer (?) is bad and gave me two options.

The short term and less expensive solution is to set a switch so that I can turn it on and off manually. This until I can afford to have the "computer" replaced (part alone according to him is like $400) +.

Any advice is appreciated. BTW I said in a moment of desperation go ahead with the switch. I need the van for my work and can't do without it.

If money is an issue, wire the fan to a wire that is hot when the ignition is on. That way you dont have to worry about remembering to turn it on and off manually.

I think your mechanic is trying to rip you off. What you described just happened to my 1998 Town & Country. Look in this forum to see my post on this. Go pick up the car and get it away from this guy. Check the integrity of your 40 amp fuse just to be sure it didnt' blow during the removal process. The relay is bolted to the drivers side of the radiator support. You have to remove the air cleaner assembley to find it. The new part cost me $48 and I put it in myself. At least get a second opinion.
