2004 style steering column shroud removal on cavy

Im trying to gain access to my ignition switch harness. Ive gotten the top part of the steering column shroud off but im having trouble with the bottom part. Unlike most cars, my steering wheel height adjustment lever seems to be permanantly attached. I tried to unscrew it with enough effort, but i didnt wanna break it off. It doesnt wanna budge. Is there an easy way to remove the lower half of my shroud or does anyone know how to remove the height adjustment lever. I apologize for being such a n00b...but ive tried everything i could!

Re: 2004 style steering column shroud removal on cavy

I just took my 97's shoud off and had a similiar experience. The height lever seemed glued almost. I ended up taking a pair of pliers, wrapped the teeth in some scrap rags, then clamping down on the lever while twisting. After a turn or two it felt like the loc-tite like substance had let loose and was easy to back out then.
