Anyone buy a locking gas cap yet?

Well, I just got home, and I saw that gas was $2.89/gal in some places, with cars wrapped around the block, and then I saw that gas was $3.89 a gallon right down the street, with even more cars wrapped around the block. I filled up yesterday for $2.59 a gallon, and have driven very little. Being the paranoid guy that I am, I stopped by Advance Auto Parts on the way home and bought a Stant locking gas cap for the Silverado. Anyone else have one or planning on getting one? Here's a link to an article that describes my local situation:

Re: Anyone buy a locking gas cap yet?

My Truck sits in the garage overnight so I'm not to worried about losing gas. Where I park at work is on Private property so there shouldn't be any gas theft here either.

Get Bush to turn the Pumps on down there and bring out the reserve fuel....

Last I read (earlier this week), he was talking about tapping the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, but that's in LA, and I dunno if it got flooded out or not...

Re: Anyone buy a locking gas cap yet?

Sorry man to hear about the prices. Hopefully they will come back down again once the summer is over and somewhat normal production resumes....

Damn, I guess Atlanta is the only place that has seen gas jump like this today... I talked to my sister in Houston, everything's normal with gas there. I talked to my Mother in Law in Tampa, everything's normal with gas there. Stupid price gougers!

Blender,

On Monday night - very late in the evening - (after Katrina had done its thing) - I paid $2.59 for premium in Rochester MN. Today it is $2.91 in MN and premium in La Crosse WI is $3.04 and based on the gasoline futures market at present - next week we could see 30 to 50 cents added on to the numbers I just said.

The sad part - is that so many people are ill informed about the situation. They think it is about oil. It isn't. Refineries can't make enough gasoline at this point. The stock pile of crude oil is good - but it is sour crude and needs alot of processing. Meanwhile refineries are running at 98% for 2 years steady - no stops - no breaks - no maintenance. And now - we have some refineries down because of Katrina with only 20 day gasoline stockpiles in our system. A SPR release from the East Coast - won't get us more gasoline. And if you think gasoline is expensive - wait till you see what Natrual gas prices will be this winter. Numerous NG rigs in the Gulf are off line for 4 months. NG on the commodity market was $9.50 on Friday and by Monday NG was $11.85 - and we aren't near the NG burning season yet.

By the way - I got one of the Stant units late last Fall - because a 26 gallon tank full of fuel represents money at $2.00 a gallon - and represents food for the week for some people at $3.00 a gallon.

One thing about those fuel caps by Stant - mine tends to loosen sometimes enough that the truck indicates "tighten gas cap". You have to make sure you turn it so that it clicks "several times".

Even in surounding areas around Atlanta, gas is still in the mid $2 range. People in the metro Atlanta are are just being asswipes and pouring salt on an open wound by price gouging. The governor made an anouncement late this afternoon saying any station that is giulty of price gouging will be fined between $5,000 and $15,000 for each offense. The EPA sent out an announcement to gasoline producing oil refineries earlier, telling them to forget putting in all the environmentally friendly crap and turn out gasoline on the double. The news indicated this was a pretty big deal the SPR release was just to counter the oil pipeline that's offline due to no power. My stant said to click it 3 times to lock it... I guess anything less than that could have a tendency to get loose.

Re: Anyone buy a locking gas cap yet?

I watched the news and I can't believe the people in america. People with food and water are giving it away, while the gas and lumber companies are gouging the public for every dime they have.

Isn't it funny how some industries are allowed to do such a thing.

Instead of looting the houses, they should loot the gas stations. I saw one place that was charging over 6 a gallon.

Hey, is there any way to use the thether on the factory gas cap with the locking one? I pushed the little plastic pin out of the filler tube bracket from the back side, so I have what you might call my entire "gas cap assembly" in my toolbox. Anyway, it would be nice to be able to reuse the tether.

Re: Anyone buy a locking gas cap yet?

I bought one about three months ago. I wanted to get it before Gov. Schwartzenegger decides to come by my house and tries to siphon gas from my truck (just one of the many bennies of living in the Sacramento area)!!!
