Help on choosing CD player
So I got a Hyundai Elantra Hatchback, wonderful car. Now I need to get a CD Player. I want a front loading unit but I don't know ANYTHING about car audio. Like what is DIN and how do I know which my car is? Can anyone recommend any, I don't wanna spend over 200 on the unit itself. The Alpine CDA-9847 seemed good but I really don't know anything bout the specs. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Help on choosing CD player
If you want to run subwoofers get one that has pre-amp outputs(almost all do). If you want to run more than 1 amp you need a CD player with 2-3 pre-amp outputs.
Don't worry about how powerful it is. I read a study that said because it's only getting 12V of power the RMS is only 17 W on all CD players. Also you want one that will last for a while don't get a cheap brand.

Re: Help on choosing CD player
For one what things are you looking for installing amps for the speakers, subwoofer, cd changer, mp3/wma, any of these would be helpful. You can get HU's with all the features you would need just look around. Remember that the preamp voltage the higher the better between 3and4v is average and 5v and up is more what you want for clean sound if you install an amp. You will need the mounting kit unless it was like my old car the stock brackets could work these can be 10-25bucks from walmart or circuit city, best buy. You will also need a wiring harness the one from the casette if its stock would have the harness attached so its pretty much useless for the cd player and the ones you buy come color coded for easy hookup. Now for the mp3/wma if you dont know what this is its an audio format that enables you to fit up to 1000+ songs on one cd. AS for the power never read the peak power it will usually say depending on where you get it from the RMS power of it (tr10av yeah at 12 volts they might get the same power but newer HU use power converters and switching power supplies to up the power and run cooler, not every HU has the same mosfet power supply so no not every one will be the same). This HU has more than enough features and it under 200 bucks.
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-wWwazLx...300&I=133C5401 Alpine, eclipse, high end clarion, theres a few other brands that have some nice HU's. Stay away from pyle, legacy, sony or pioneer, some of the higher end HU from these companies can be ok but way overpriced for the features.

Re: Help on choosing CD player
I don't intend to change anything but the HU, seems that my factory speakers are good enough. I do know what MP3/WMA is and I don't see why anyone would ever want to make a WMA cd but MP3 is nice. Also, do these have AM/FM radio, I don't see anything regarding it.
How are these? http://www.crutchfield.com/S-9ejLwqJ...0&I=500CDE9845 http://www.crutchfield.com/S-9ejLwqJ...0&I=500CDA9847 Can't really tell the diff between em except for the 2nd is Satelite radio complient, which I don't really care about. |

Re: Help on choosing CD player
Actually it has 3 sets of pre-amp out puts front, rear and sub. The voltage for the pre-amps is only 2v its a little low but it will work fine for what your looking for. It does have the satellite radio ready to. The 9847 also has an 18x4rms it says its CEA2006 compliant which means that it was tested and does run at that.
I know some people who have never even heard of mp3. WMA's can be compressed smaller than an mp3 and get the same bitrate so in the long run more songs.
