vtec controllor?

ok i once had a h22 lude and im now lookin at purchasing another one. i love the way the vtec screams at high rpm's. ok i understand how a vtec works and the science behind it.

so i see these ''vtec controllers'' from apexi and other company's .... what exactly do they do and waht kind of gains do u get from them?

thanks

Re: vtec controllor?

The VTEC controllers just allow you to change the time VTEC engages either at a higher or lower RPM than stock. You wont really "gain" anything from them. Personally, I think they are waste of money, Honda has spent alot of time trying to find the perfect RPM for VTEC to engage at. I believe VTEC engages at 5100 RPM stock.

Re: vtec controllor?

that makes sense. all the vtec really does is engage a pin which enables a different cam lobe to open and close the valves. and that is meant for hp in the high end than tq in the low end. i guess there wouldnt be any other rpm i'd want it to kick in than what it is stock .... makes sense to me

You defanetly stole that defanition from me. But yeah they are defanetly worthless. VTEC engages the best spot possible for a stock/slightly modded engine. Now, if you've rebuilt it and the engine car rev to 9k or close to it, then a VTEC controller might be a resonable idea. BTW, H22s VTEC engages at 5200 rpm to be exact.

Optimal VTEC engagement point is dependant upon cams. If you have stock cams, don't even bother.

Re: vtec controllor?

VAFC's help! Even stock engines can be tuned. Straight up VTEC controllers, however, are as worthless as they get.
