Need Help Keeping Up

Ahhh, feels good to be back. But no one cares, so I'll get on with it. I just got another 94 Z28 A4 same as my last one but this one is black, but anyway, one of my friends just got a 99 Anniv. TA WS6, completely stock and my other friend will be getting a brand new 2006 Mustang GT. So I am trailing the pack in power with the 94Z. All I have done is a catback. I need some advise on what to do to at least keep up with these guys when we are on the streets. A CAI is a must I know, but I just finished some much needed repairs and just started college, so I strapped for cash. Any (cheap) suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Transgo shift kit, around $100.00, some gears 150 - 200, some headers 230 - 400 (for basic mid - long tubes) and a custom PCM tune 50 - 75. You will be kicking some ass.

The only one who might give you a challenge is the WS6, new Stang GTs shouldnt be that much trouble.

Re: Need Help Keeping Up

Headers, air intake systems (k&n or slp), air foil(slp), 1le air intake elbow, 1.6 roller rockers, lt4 hotcam, port your heads, aluminum driveshaft (fixes vibrations from the steel one you have now and increses throttle responce), rear end gears (this is a big bang for the buck deal), if its a manual a skip shift eliminator is a must, if its an auto a shift kit and or corvette servo, 160degree thermostat with a custom pcm tune, throttle body bypass (free mod), msd wires,.... the list goes on and on.... but just starting out i would say get an air intake system since its just a good platform to build off of and will give you a nice jump in hp.... gears would be 2nd (depending on what you already have) and 3rd i would get headers, they give you a niccce hp boost... and then build from there

Man, leave it to Cuda to show you the path on a 'small' hp boost.

Re: Need Help Keeping Up

he said "cheap" Cuda. The LT4 kit alone is like 500 bucks although worth every penny also, If he has a custom tune the skip shift eliminator would be part of the tune but I like the way you think

Thanks for all the input. Obviously the intake is a must, but how would I go about getting the PCM tuned? I know some things about my car, but not a lot.

Re: Need Help Keeping Up

Well you need a datalogger cable also known as a aldl cable sometimes. They have them on ebay sometimes. Then you can go to either www.pcmforless.com or www.madz28.com and give them your exact mods and they will do up a custom program to give you a extra kick in the seat of the pants,. One tune runs around 50 buck and unlimited tunes run around 75 bucks. Its great cause no downtime, they just make the program, email it to ya and then you just upload it into your car and your set.
