Airbag light

1996 328ci
My airbag light stays on and I need it to function properly to pass inspection.

I need it to stay on for 6 seconds after ignition and then turn off. If I do not pass inspection then I can no longer drive my car.

It doesn't matter what I have to rig up just as long as it works for the inspection. Please help.

have the problem fixed. It's probabally a seat belt tensioner fault. You start trying to rig the system ,and you could be wearing the drivers side bag for a hat

Re: Airbag light

take it to the dealer, ask them to clear the codes, then drive straight to the inspection, should be ok.

Re: Airbag light

Clearing the codes won't help if there is an actual problem with the system. Inspection stations can tell if the codes have been cleared recently. Have the codes pulled and start there..

Re: Airbag light

I was just sayin to do it the same day, that light will eventually come back if not fixed. But usually the Airbag lights are not consistent thrown codes, you may have them cleared and it may onle come back every 3rd or 4th cycle of the key. Just a suggestion though.

Not true. If it's a hard fault, the light will immediately come back on

Thumbs up Re: Airbag light

clear codes ( it happened to me and I cleared the codes ,it was ok for another 5 months before it showed up again). Replace seat belt latch or entire restraint . good luck codes will tell you which seat .

Re: Airbag light

Since this thread was started over 2 years ago, my guess is that the problem is handled by now. But for those of you reading it, the best practice is to have the codes read by a scan tool (Not Auto Zone...their's won't readi airbag or ABS codes) and then you will know the problem and what to replace or repair. Throwing darts at seat belt pretensioners, clocksprings or wiring under the seat can be costly, time consuming and a wast of money.

Re: Airbag light

I hit a city bump and my passenger side DOOR HEAD airbag deployed. It was a trip.
