6.2 diesel how many miles wil it go?

Does anybody have any idea hwo many miles i will get out of my truck. its an '83 with a 6.2 in it has about 180,000 now, runs real good.

Every 6.2 I've seen, pulled the main webs out. A good friend was rebuilding his 6.2. Charlie bought the truck new and took excellent care of it. Synthetic oil, filter by-pass etc. It developed an internal knock in the lower end. I stopped by to see how he was doing. He'd found some headers and was going to run 3" Flowmasters on the new engine. He was cleaning up the block and looking at it when I pulled up. First thing I asked him was, what do the main webs look like? Charlie said "Great" no sign of wear. I took out a maglight and shone it beside the center main web where it blends into the side of the block. Big crack. Every one was pulled out from the side of the block. He called around looking for another block and found out it was an epidemic situation. They all do it. Th e6.2 was a gasoline engine they converted to diesel. The block just isn't thick or heavy enough to stand up. urveryugly wasn't being sarcastic. Your 6.2 may very well be running great at this time but, if you take it apart, the odds are the main webs are cracking away from the block. There is no fix for it. Charlie thought of making a girdle to tie the main webs together but decided to swap the truck over to a gasoline engine and sell it. He still has the headers if you're interested.

The GM 5.7 diesel was the gasoline conversion. The 6.2 was enginereed as strictly a diesel. It did not begin life as a gasoline motor. The 6.2 diesel is a strong motor, it just does not provide the power like the aspirated (turbo) diesels. The Military has been using the 6.2 (and now the 6.5) for years and it has been proven in the worst conditions. While the Military 6.2 differs slightly in setup, the block and mains are the same . I personally have a civilian 83 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 6.2 and military 86 5/4 ton 4x4 6.2. The 83 has over 250k and the military 100k miles and they still run great. I use them to pull hay and other farming equipment all year long well above their rated weight limits. I started out as an Army diesel mechanic and have had the opportunity to see for myself it's capabilities and short commings.

I'll have to back this one up..the 6.2 is a diesel engine not a conversion.
I have customers with 3-400K miles on their 6.2s...still going strong

I have a 1991 GMC and have 600,000km on it so far. A friend with the same type of truck was at 750,000 when he sold it. Only problem with mine is the truck is falling apart around the engine...lol.
