CD Player Install Questions

Ok first i did a search and came up with this thread.

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...ghlight=player

That is the problem my pap has in his 89.Its an 89 c1500 with the air vents in the center and a few years back he went to have a cd player put in it and they said no now that i found that thread i know they were bull floppin him.So those links in there are dead where can i find the center vent adapter piece since the cassette player is there now. Also once that is out cd player in where can i get that cubby of which you guys speak to replace the radio functions that are next to the steering column.

I looked over at crutchfield and they have a few cd players that are direct fit without modification so would i need that center radio piece but i can not find anything on this cubby.I saw that picture of the tach where the radio functions used to be and im like holy crap thats awesome but my pap already has a factory tach on his dash.

Any links or knowledge would be appreciated and cool.I know im gonna need to get a wiring kit but i know this can be done with the proper links and equipment. Thanks

I talked to a guy over at crutchfield he gave me that link for the pocket and some other link for a center vent adapter but that would not work since its 98 and up body style adapter

That may work, I dont know...never seen it before. All the dash kits I used for this truck replace the entire center piece... it would seem more secure to me.… Your best bet is to go to a car stereo shop and buy one, they run about 17 bucks at circuit city. You will also need an antenna adaptor (GM-10), and a GMC Harness (1858) Circuit City also carries the square dash peice for that sits above the A/C Controls.

Those are circuit city part codes.

Now, to install the radio…first thing you need to do is take off the lower dash piece on the driver side (should be two bolts) you will see a silver metal box on the right hand side… unscrew that, and drop the box down, unplug the harnesses and the antenna in it. And take it out.

Now remove the center piece that’s around the cassette, take off. (it should just pull off, pull the bottom off first, than pull down after the bottoms releases and the top will slide out) take the metal clips that hold it to the dash out from the old pastic piece you just took out. (some times they get stuck in the dash and need to be pulled off with pliers) and put them on the new dash piece. look at the inside of the old dash piece, you will see a metal spring on each vent holding the it in. Pop those out, (careful, sometimes they go flying, and you need to use them again) take the vents out, and put them in the new dash piece. then put the same metal springs back in that hold the vent in place.

Now take the cassette out, remove two screws on both sides and pull. A wire will usually get stuck…go under the dash where you unplugged them, and feed it through until you can remove the cassette.

Now Connect the harness you bought, to the harness underneath the dash, (make all your connections so its ready to plug into the deck before you do this part) feed the harness and the antenna to the same spot where you took out the cassette, make sure you have some slack. Then put your antenna adaptor on the on the antenna.

Pop the dash kit in… then put the radio cage in the dash kit, push out the tabs so its secure.... then connect the radio and antenna, slide the radio in…. and your done!

Re: CD Player Install Questions

Dash kit looks like this: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Metra...oductDetail.do

it comes in 4 diffrent colors, Circuit City carries three. Grey, Blue, Red.

This should be that Pocket: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Metra...oductDetail.do

Here is the Harness that I HIGHLY recommend using, you can cut the wires...but its stupid do on this truck cus their sooo short: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Metra...oductDetail.do

Here is the Antenna Adapor which you need if you want to listen to the radio: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Metra...oductDetail.do

I just wanted to say thanks for the compliment on the tach; it was my first customizing attempt, and I didn't know if anyone saw it or what they thought. BTW, wal-mart sells the complete center vent replacement for where the factory cassette fits for a little over 10 bucks. Its black, but easy to spray with a rattle can. If you have any issues when you install the cd player, feel free to post them, I'm by no means an expert, but I have been putting them in on the side for years
