Instrument cluster
I went to Advance Autoparts to buy a replacement bulb for my instrument cluster because the dang repair shop left a bulb out. So the right side of my speedometer gauge is dark. Well anyway, I bought the bulb which is a 12v bulb and it did not work. Come to find out that the stock bulbs are 14 volt 1.4 watt. Now how in the heck are we supposed to get replacements except from the dealer? If they stop making them then what? I thought everything in cars ran on 12 volts.
Can someone explain this to me? Is there a way to convert the instrument cluster to 12 volts? Thanks in advance. John

Re: Instrument cluster
Goto the dealer. They should have them by the billions. Everything is 12volts. There are resistors and capacitors that change the power supply.
Also, when the alternator is on, the car is getting about 14 volts or so. That's how the alternator charges the battery. Car runs from 10.5-14.5 volts. There was a whole post that was done about this recently. I think its title was something like voltage gauge or soemthing. I posted a big response on why. Goodluck
