First turboed car.

I live in CA and I'm getting a second car soon (I drive a 72' Nova now). It's gonna be a budget rocket ( $2500 spending cap before mods). I'm thinking 91' 240sx, cause I have a hard-on for RWD, but I am open to suggestions if anybody thinks there is a better car to start with.

Re: First turboed car.

can i ask how you plan to turbo a KA24 while living in CA? Your only going to have it as a track car? Or are you going to bribe the DEQ people?

Bribe baby BRIIIIBE. Not to sound like a big shot or anything, but it's one of those I know a guy who know's a guy things. My buddies STI cannot pass smog... but is passes in one particular shop. Otherwise I'd be unbolting it before smog week. Thanks for looking out though.

Anyways back to the TOPIC at hand.

Re: First turboed car.

that's a good car, for other rwd cars to keep a look out, 84-88 corolla, supra any year, skyline (don't know which one's are rwd but im pretty sure there are some). but why don't you try and turbocharge your nova? you wouldn't have to risk getting caught with the smog stuff and you'd probably have better results. anyway, make sure you reinforce you engine if you run more than like 5 psi so you don't blow a head, piston, or anything. good luck with the project and post pics of whatever you do

Re: First turboed car.

He's worried about fuel economy.

My advice, when it comes down to smog, just have a spare KA sitting there to swap in. Engine swaps are easy on the 240sx. 4-5hour job at the most.

But you may also want to look into JDM engine swaps if you are prepared to just swap out when smog comes around.

Re: First turboed car.

in terms of fuel economy, you'll notice a slight drop in it if you drive normally. that's the great thing about turbos, they're only there when you need them.

Re: First turboed car.

lol, very true because boost is, in a way, like displacement, having displacement on demand and turbo(s) would be sweet, great fuel economy with awsome power when needed.

That's baddass, I never thought of the turbo like that, but I guess it's true just puttsing around town leave it at a low psi, plus it only really kicks in when you mash it correct? But yea Burrito I have though of the Nova, but it's my daily driver and I have been using it as such for 2 years. So it's time to throw a cover over the 72' for a while and play with a 4 cyl now that I can afford a 2nd car. Having a classic as a daily driver gets a little old (not as user friendy as nwer cars), and puts the poor baby at risk for more harm. I got rear ended buy a fuckin' GAS TRUCK, repeat after me "GAS...TRUCK" LOL in april, and just got it fixed, and I'd hate to ever total that car. You rise a good point Nissan Fanatic, if it only take 4-5 (GAAAD I LOVE RWD) to swap out the motor I might as well go JDM. I don't drive like a dip-shit, and cops down hear will usually only pop your hood if you get stupid (that doesn't mean they are soft on tickets however), so I don't have to classify that as a top worrie. Which SR's are more ideal for the s13's, was it the redtop?
