Unhappy Carbon Fiber Hood Probs

Ok, I need to do a few things to my CF hood for my gt4.

(1. The wiper nozzle holes in the CF are just a tad too small to fit the nozzles into. Can I drill and what would it take if I did??? Would I need to redo clear coat over those areas, or since the nozzles cover it a little would it be ok??

(2. I wanna do hood pins to drop some more weight, and just because I think they are cool. So do I drill through CF??? Does it risk cracking? Should I pay out the bum to have a shop do it?

Any input would be great.

Well I would say that drilling into the cf should be fine. You just need to be careful you dont put too much pressure on the drill as your drilling. Dont press down too hard and let the drill bit do all the work when drilling the holes for the hood pins and you should be fine.

As for the wiper nozzle holes, how much too small are they? Could you just sand them back the required amount?

Where did you get your hood from? And how much did you pay for it?

Re: Carbon Fiber Hood Probs

Paid $590 to get it. Got it from a dealer that someone recommended me too, yet I will never deal with them again. They sell on ebay but I was told the e-mail from a friend of mine. I shouldn't post the dealer's name on here, but it is something to do with a portly male garage. If anyone can figure that out they'll know who I mean. It is a nice hood, just took over a month to get.

Ahhh... kool. Thanks for the headsup :P I was looking at getting one from www.seibon.com

But I have also heard stories about their products being pretty crappy quality. They were also quite expensive from memory...

Re: Carbon Fiber Hood Probs

The authentic seibon products are decent, but not amazing and they are spendy. The cheapest I can buy one is for $630 shipped. I would go for the CS hood that Fiber Images made and they did a group buy on on toyotacelicaonline.com and alltrac.net Thost hoods were hott!!! I will eventually get one, they end up bein close to 700 shipped.

my CF hood has the same problem. i just took out my washers and put electrical tape on the inside of the hood. but as for drilling yeah just be careful and it should be fine(take it off the car so you dont get shavings in the engine bay) for the pins...personally i wouldnt mess with it. it wont save very much weight. maybe like 5lbs

Like this one?

Yeah they are pretty hot. The original CS hood doesnt have the vents in them. The vents in the CF version look hot.

Re: Carbon Fiber Hood Probs

Yeah, the one like that they had here:

http://www.toyotacelicaonline.com/bo...on+fiber+hoods

It is more of a real CS copy. I can get that other one for less, but i know Fiber Images is awesome quality.

Re: Carbon Fiber Hood Probs

as far as drilling goes, I would start with the smallest drill bit I could get, and dont forget to center punch prior to drilling, maybe you could test it on a little area where it wouldn't be seen first, start with the smallest bit, and step slowly up to the size of the pins, you take less chance of breaking anything, I wouldn't skip up on drill bits more then 2 or 3 sizes though

Re: Carbon Fiber Hood Probs

Ok thanx, it sucks that Fiber Images will no longer be makin the hoods, I guess I will eventually buy the seibon CS hood after I do a FMIC. I can get a good deal since I can get it straight from my dealer who I sell body kits through.

Re: Carbon Fiber Hood Probs

If anyone wants that CF CS hood pictured above I have one in NY that needs to be sold. Brand new, authentic seibon, unlike the ones on ebay for 450. Drop me a PM or e-mail if interested. Thanx [email protected]
