will not shift from park
97 blazer console shift is stuck in park. Car starts fine but will not come out of park. I assume there is a switch on the brake but couldn't find it in the dark.

Re: will not shift from park
ignition switch is bad or the brake switch is not releasing the tranny lock.

Had the same trouble on my '97.
To bypass the BTSI solenoid: 1. Lift the leather boot around the shift lever where it "snaps" into the console. 2. On the right-side (passenger side) of the shift lever, find the white tab and carefully depress the tab and shift out of Park and into Neutral. As to the problem: Is the only symptom the inability to shift from Park? From Park, can the ignition be placed from on/run to off and the key removed? Does the truck experience intermittent hard starts (ignition in Start or Run but no dash lights) or dies intermittently? My 'no shift from park' problem was caused by a dirty electrical connection at the neutral safety switch(?) mounted on the left-side (driver side) of the transmission. |
