Engine Light Issues....

Whats up guys. I'm new to the forum and happy i found it cuz im Hopin 1 or more of u guys can help me...I got a 99 Cougar and the thing runs great BUT...my check engine light sparaticaly goes on and off...like on 4-2 days and off for 2 days...never flashing knock on wood...im just wondering if anybody can give me and explanation for this. Reason being the car performs the same whether the lights on or off...and from what i kno the engine seems to be in good condition considering i just passed 80,000 on the odo. Can ANYONE help me!?!...this lights DRIVING ME crazy...Thanx...

probably running rich or lean. Next time the cel comes on, drive to a local autozone and they can pull the code and tell you what it means.

Good Lookin Beyond...its an o2 scensor...i didnt kno bout the free diagnositc at Autozone...good stuff...thanx again man

check the egr valve it is eather bad or is clooged with carbon clean or replace i would try autozone if the light is on the code wlll read insuffint egr downflow if that is the problem try to clean it first for the part is expencive
