v6 s10 fuel pump failures

My daughter has a '00 s10 with 65k that is suffering fuel pump failure. The new part is 400 bucks! Anyone have info on the failure rate of these pumps? Know where I can go to get consumer info of this sort? I want to pursue this as a consumer relations/warranty situation if this is possible. Thanks...

the 98-04 s-10 have always had problems with fuel pumps and fuel spider's , the pressure line on the pump tends to leak , making it hard start all the time , but run ok , never heard of them failing so bad as to make the truck completly die tho , havent really heard of the actual pump dying in a long time , and as for the spider , the lines leak , the line seals leak , adn the pressure regulator leaks , and most of the time , if pull it out to try and replace a leaky line , they all start leaking a week later and you end up replaceing the whole unit , and stupid people drive them around like that for ever so long , over fueling , wasting gas , and fouling and 800$ catalytic converter , but other then that , theyre wonderful trucks , i love mine to death , but good luck taking up aconsumer report on that , also , i think i remember seeing something about them extending the warrenty on the fuel spiderbut yeah , good luck with all that

Pretty common failure on these. The pump has to be purchased as a complete assembly. Don't expect any help from GM on the pump and install cost. With what we've seen with our 01 on warranty repairs they are hardly fixing anything if they can get out of it. I'd check with www.rockauto.com or www.gmpartsdirect.com for best pricing and/or have it replaced by an independent mech. Save a few dollars.
