Re: smoking brakes after new rotors and pads
It sounds like they might be draggin on the rotor... Is it all the time or just after some hard driving?

Re: smoking brakes after new rotors and pads
Are you properly breaking-in the brakes, or just hard braking on them right away?

Re: smoking brakes after new rotors and pads
Obviously the brakes are sticking. Well, have you try to "seat" the brakes? (Break in) Find a street where you can accelerate and brake without affecting traffic. Drive up to 60mph, brake by gradually increasing the braking force. This actually means that you do apply quite a pressure on the brakes towards the end. Try not to completely stop, gradually accelerate to 60 again to allow brakes to cool. Repeat the process 5 times or so. This should break-in the new pads and rotor surfaces.
(see http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/...otors_myth.htm) The break in precedure should be taken with new pads and rotors. But this might not solve your sticking issue. You might want to take the pads out and see if you have some foreign material between the pads and the caliper pistons. Or did you use shims by any chance? If so you might want to take them out. Maybe you should try to do this before the breakin process. Hope this helps you. |

Re: smoking brakes after new rotors and pads
yeah i think i am gonna check the pads first, cause there is black dust all over my rim and it even seems hard to accelerate, i haven't driven the car since the first time i saw that it was getting so hot

Re: Re: smoking brakes after new rotors and pads
Oh, yeah, I just noted that the problem is happening on your rear brakes. Is something jambed or malfunctioning at the emergency brake assembly?
