Full Synthetic Oil

I've always used quaker state 5w-30 full synthetic but when i went to get my oil changed where i always have they say they don't stock it anymore, so they recommended mobile 1 full synthetic. does anyone have any opinions about mobile 1? good bad? what full synthetic oil do you recommend?

A lot of the guys in the Grand Prix site who have their cars modded swear by Mobil 1 Synthetic. Must be good.

Mobil 1 is a far superior synthetic;
especially the "extended mileage" oil.
just road tested an '02 Tacoma from Houston, TX to Denver, CO
and with just a little over 12K worth of miles on the oil, it is still virtually
lucid and see-through. also getting about 24mpg out of the 2.7L-4cylinder (with A/C), which is very good compared to prior; however, this could also be assisted by the acetone running through the fuel line.

if you have ANY leaks, DO NOT waste your money, and just do an oil change with conventional petroleum based oil; @$4-5/qt is not worth it, if it ends up on your driveway.

Mobil has a website, do your research. and if using synthetic, think about changing your filter at 3K, but your oil @ 5-6K.

I use Mobil 1 in both my Trans Am and my Grand Am. It should start to be black at about 250 miles. Mobil 1 will break down at about 15000 miles, even longer with the extended life stuff. Filter won't make it that long though.
The black in the oil is basicly dirt. You WANT your oil to be black when you change it. Means it is doing its job, protecting your motor by taking in the contaminents. The black doesn't mean it isn't working.

I'd have to lean with luos here. I wouldn't say you should expect black oil, since it might suggest some sort of internal wear and damage, but you should definitely expect to see a darker color. Some of the additives in oil are cleaners/detergents, and if they're not dripping out with the oil with ur change, then all that dirt/sludge/gunk is sitting on all your engine parts. Unless there has always been a 3K full synthetic oil change, I don't even really see it possible for the oil to come out looking brand new. If you can afford the synthetic, great, but in the past if I'vew been short on money, I've gone with a half-synthetic(Valvoline) at about 2.50 a quart as opposed to 4-5 per quart.

I've always run castrol sytec, change it around 12-15k and the filter around 5k or so, when we pulled the motor apart to change the head gasket the original timing chain guides were showing hardly any wear at 235k miles. If you run synthetic for any length of time and switch back to conventional oil you will have problems with seals and bearings.
