ringing under the hood, almost like a bell.
hey guys, I havn't been on the AF much lately cause of football and all. I was driving my car today and when I went to park it why it was still running, its sounds like there is a loud dinging noise, like a bell constanly hitting when the engine is on, and when I go to take off, nothing changes, it just stays the same. need some help on this one guys, thanks. Im taking a look for myself right now too, to see if i can find the prob.

I've the same ringing on my '99 Grand Am for a few years. It comes and goes. I believe it's the AC clutch.

Re: ringing under the hood, almost like a bell.
GADriver, It is the AC Pulley, my 96 did it for about a year, sometimes it went away when I got the RPM's up or if I turned on the AC or front defroster. My AC finally went out about a month ago, but I haven't had a chance to get it looked at.
I have heard that there is an AC clutch rebuild kit available but have not looked into it yet, I am most likely going to hit a salvage yard and replace the compressor. If any of the members know of a rebuild kit please let me know. I also think I have lost all of the coolant for the AC , I jumped directly to the compressor and the clutch engaged but it srill blew hot air, so I know that there is not enough pressure to kick the compressor. I hope your fix is cheaper. Good luck, Dan |
