Hissing Sound Brake Problem

Hello all!

I have a 1987 with a V6, p/b, a/c. Recently I started hearing a hissing noise under the dash when pressing the brake pedal down and the brakes are not as effective as they should be.

I can say it sounds like a vac. leak and am wondering what under the dash could be the culprit?

Thanks!

Brian

Check your brake booster under the hood.

Ditto on the brake booster. You may need a new one.

No noise under the hood...brakes stop ok as far as power boost goes...just spotty as the hissing varies with the leaking vacuum

But the noise sounds like a vac. hose under the dash...is there a vac. line under the dash for brakes

Thanks!

Sorry for the multiple replies...it's 110 degrees here and I'm working on this thing a little at a time

The noise under the dash is right where the brake pedal rod meets the firewall and goes into the booster.

It is a vacuum leak right where the rod goes in

Any help?

Thanks all!

Brian

Re: Hissing Sound Brake Problem

More than likely you have an internal leak in your booster.

Re: Hissing Sound Brake Problem

They are non-serviceable.
