Wiring question

Hey all,

I am considering changing my radio to an aftermarket radio/GPS system. I have a few questions.
My truck has onStar, which I did not renew when it expired. By removing the radio, will I throw any codes to Big Brother, or will I be fine? Other than loosing the use of the buttons on the steering wheel, will I have any othe problems? Finally, can someone tell me where I can find the correct wire for the speed pulse out of the computer? I need to tie this into my GPS.

Thanks!

I instaled a whole new stereo in my 03 when I got it (head unit and speakers). Get a wiring harness to use when you change the radio. Usually they are about $15, but for Chevy trucks they are about $70+. The reason for that is a lot of the trucks "extras" run through the stock radio (the chime, onstar etc.). Go to a Best Buy or any place they install radios and they will know about it. It is the same story for any GM truck so chances are they have seen it before.

I don't have anything for you on the speed wire thing.

i dont know what year your truck is but if it is a 03-05 the radio harness is 16.99 and u will lose the door chimes and 89.99 to keep the chimes. unless the radio has rds in which you will need a 65 dollar harness and you will need to leave the radio in the truck somewhere. and on the speed sense wire, it is dark green with a white stripe in the instument cluster or at the pcm

CHEVROLET, SILVERADO, 2003, Speed Sense

The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) is in the left front of the engine compartment to the left of the fan shroud. The VSS wire is in the green plug, pin 50. dark green with white stripe.

i hope this helps.
