Re: stalling propblem

I agree with checking the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS). I had similar problems in my '94 Jeep GC. I did a tune-up (replaced plugs, cap, rotor, wires), and it didn't fix the stalling. I was close to giving up on the CPS because it seemed really difficult to get a wrench on the nearly invisible bolt, but from underneath with about an 18" socket extender, I could get to it no problem. That was 2 weeks ago, and it's worked fine since then.

Let us know how it goes!

Re: stalling propblem

Ttony, email me and I will give you the instructions for testing the CPS, altho to get an accurate readin you will have to test it when it fails (stalling occurs).

There are many viarable with stalling, Ignition Coil, CPS, Fuel Pump, just a few.

Here is what I suggest, the next time it stalls recheck for SPARK and also check to see if you can hear the FUEL PUMP kick on: Remove the gas cap, hold your ear close to the filler hole, have someone turn the key to the ON position while you listen for a WHIRRING sound, this would be the fuel pump. if you do not hear the FUEL PUMP kick on and you have NO SPARK, then the CPS would be the cause.

Re: stalling propblem

Here's a link to some CPS test info at Autozone.com. It may make sense for someone who is familiar with electrical testing. For me, I chose to spend $60 on the sensor and replace it in about 20 minutes, rather than spend hours fussing with testing (since I was somewhat confused by the testing procedure). Here's the link to an article.

If this doesn't work, try going to www.autozone.com and search the "Repair Info / Products and How To Info" section. They have good summaries on all types of testing, inspection, and replacements.
