Temperature Guage Maxing out / motor not hot
I have a 94 Plymouth Grand Voyager with 175K miles with a 3.3L V6. For the last month, the engine temperature gauge has resided near the max line on the gauge causing the "check gauges" light to go on. The engine goes not seem hot; cutting the A/C does not seem to help,;and it seems to lower only slightly if I go downhill. Going uphill seems to max out the gauge. As soon as I stop, I find the engine is not hot (warm?) and can place my hand directly on the radiator cap without any problem. I feel a little afraid to ride for long with this gauge? problem. My mechanic has topped off the radiator recently with coolant. Any suggestions??
