tuning

Now as a relatively new DSMer I know that tuning is one of the most important aspects of modifying your car. But I don't actually know anything about tuning. I'm curious as to if there is a guide or if someone can tell me what I need to do, now or in the future to tune my eclipse for optimal hp gains. I know alot of people talk about dsmlink, but I'm not quite sure what that is other than a program you can hook up to your car, or even how it works. Can anyone give me a guide or atleast some good advice about this? In the next month or so, I am doing a complete fuel system upgrade with the pump and injectors also a gm maf and an AFC controller, as well as a 16g evo3. So I want to know what I can do for tuning.

Your one of the lucky ones, you have a 95 which has the EPROM ecu. DSMlink uses that specific ecu, so that would be something good to check out.

www.dsmlink.com would be a great place to start learning. Someone with more experience with it can help you more.

Re: tuning

All you can really do is just read everything you find, and take it all with a grain of salt. The hard part is determining what is true and what is misinformation. It's such a vast topic I couldn't possibly start to explain it. But myself and others have posted about it extensively in the past here and on other forums. Just search and read as much as you can...

And for the record, DSMlink completely takes the place of an AFC, logger, and chip, just so you know. The DSMlink site has a lot of good info. You can even download the software for free to play with it.

I took a look at the site and it looks pretty interesting. I noticed that they said something about you having to send in your ecu so you can socket it? What the heck is that? That means I have to send them my ecu, or did I just misread this or something.

Re: tuning

Any chip you want to run will require resocketing the ECU. You can send it in, dave Mertz does awesome ECU work. They turn them around quickly too, a day or two at most usually.
