Noise, Rust, Smoke

Alright here goes...new user here, long time reader. I have a few questions about my 1993 S-10 Blazer 4x4 4 door with the Tahoe LT package, 150,000 miles. I've had it for about a year, put about 18,000 miles on it and I've replaced the water pump, starter and got a new bumper, grille and and fender because of an accident. Other than that, the engine and tranny are very good. Even before the accident, I noticed a loud popping/ clunking noise coming from the passenger side of the front end whenever I made left turns or went over potholes. At first i thought it was the shock, which I had replaced, and sure enough it didnt help at all. Ive heard different reasons/ explanations for this from various people ranging from the control arm bushings to the sway bar. When the Blazer is on a lift, the passenger side tire moves about 2-3 inches to the left and right, but not up and down. Also, the steering has way too much play and I find myself constantly being pulled left and right in my lane on the highway. When in 4 wheel drive, which i rarely use because of this, the problem becomes much worse when the front wheels are activated and the Blazer swerves left and right a lot more. Any help with this is greatly appreciated, and I also have some minor questions about my Blazer putting out a cloud of smoke when i start it in the morning, and I was wondering if there is a way to get rid of the rust on the bottom of my doors (rusted all the way thru) without replacing the doors.

Re: Noise, Rust, Smoke

these problems are addressed in other posts, but here goes my two cents worth..
1. Idler arm...notoriously bad... probably the cause of the play, and perhaps the popping
2. lower control arm.... make sure welds on bottom have not broken. My son's did, and that was his popping
3. may be obvious, but the CV shaft??? had it been checked? nice 100 dollar and half a day fix...
most of all get that play taken care of soon... dangerous.

could be the hood needing hood washers.

what color is the smoke puff in the morning.

Also, you can replace door skins.

Re: Noise, Rust, Smoke

You will need to replace your valve stem seals which is not a bad job.

Ask you local body shop for where you can get the door skins locally.
