Check engine Light on 92 Laser

I just replaced my daughter's 93 eclipse with a 92 laser. it is a manual 2.0 engine, and has no turbo. runs great, no oil leaks, has new timing belt, oil pan gaskets, etc.

we've had it a week, and at the end of the week, the check engine light came on, and has stayed on. there are no visible symptoms for this.

In the Eclipse, it came on and stayed on, but we had massive starting problems, and it turned out to be the temperature sensor which i replaced and this corrected the problem.

There are no sypmtoms other than the light coming on.

What are the common reasons that this light would come on, and stay on? Also, is there a way to reset this to see if it will come back on?

Any help with this would be great.

Thanks

Well to reset the computer which should reset your check engine light try taking off the negative or the positive end of the battery for like 15 to 20 minutes this should reset the comp and the CEL. Good Luck. What have you checked already?

The MIL wont come on unless there's a problem, i would get it checked out somewhere instead of driving when there could be something seriously wrong with your car.

Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts or something similar will pull the codes for free. Sometimes the dealer will, but other times they feel like getting greedy and will charge you something.

After you know the codes, post them up and somebody might know how to fix the specific code and what your problem is.

Re: Check engine Light on 92 Laser

I've tried to get the codes read at these places with our 93 eclipse, even renting a codereader from them to do it myself, but they only read '96 and newer cars. Always been hesitant to take it to a dealer as they really put the screws to you for things like this. May have to bite the bullet on this one to be sure. As nothing is seemingly wrong with the car, i posted the question.

I will attempt to get the codes read and post them for evaluation. Thanks
