leaking battery warning

heads up. i had a ac delco battery put in my truck 2 yrs ago. the other day when i went to start my truck it wouldn't start. when i went to wiggle the connections the positive cable fell out of the battery. talked several people in the auto service industry and they all said it is very common for ac delco batteries to do this. the place i got it said they wanted $40 dollars to replace it and that since it is a replacement battery that it would not have ANY warranty. I called ac delco and all they kept saying is that and I quote " we make quality products ". So if you have a ac delco battery check you positive terminal it see if it leaking, if so I hope it is under the 18 month wty. but either way replace it so your not stranded somewhere.
FYI: i will never buy another ac delco battery. my friend that works at a dealerships in the service dept said that diehard batteries are pretty good choice, for what it's worth.

Re: leaking battery warning

I just experienced that two weeks ago. My Ac Delco battery in My blazer did that 8 years ago too. I've always replaced batteries with Canadian Tire Batteries. That way if I'm ever on the road anywhere in Canada and I have battery problems I can just go to any Canadian Tire store and get it replaced.

3 Year Free Replacement, 9 Year Pro_rated Replacement $100 CAN. I've always had these batteries and never had any problems. Ruddy AC'Delco batteries; oh well at least I got to spend a few minutes cleaning up my Battery Tray...

i see this alot on gm's when i do installs on them. the battery's are junk and you might as well replace it with a optima red top or yellow top and get it over with. before you get stranded.

Optima?
Are those the batteries that if you run it down you can just unplug them and they charge themselves back up again? I've only heard of rumors where guys kill their batteries and then they just unplug the battery for a few hours and it gets enough juice to get you going again????

I just like the idea of having a battery that I can take to Canadian Tire if I ever need a Warranty Replacement.

Speaking of which, I wonder how long batteries actually Last? I've only ever gone through one battery one every vehicle I've owned. The longest stretch was almost ten years and only one battery????

i dont know about charging themselves, but i have seem real good luck with these and have never had or seen one die. they are very dependable and they are gel, so no more liquid.

Re: leaking battery warning

It is common for the lead side terminal "puck" to fall out when terminal bolts are too long or overtightened....I used to work parts at Canadian Tire and took in a lot of batteries like this. That is a reason why the batt cable bolt head is so small (requires only a small amount of torque).

Re: leaking battery warning

I use Interstate Batteries because I simply cannot afford an Optima. I used to sell Interstate batteries at the shop where I worked and I love the hell out of them. GREAT warranty too.

Re: leaking battery warning

They do, and I'm not sure about the price. I forgot all about that though. I'm kinda partial to Interstate, I might have to look into this. Thanks for reminding me

Re: leaking battery warning

My Delco did that too. Acid filled the terminal and part off the cable's jacket. I cleaned the area with a gallon of water and baking soda.
I have an Optima. They are now owned by Interstate.

Re: leaking battery warning

Not only did my Delco battery leak, but the leaking acid took out the pump on the wiper reservoir tank. Just an FYI. Easy to replace though.
