RKE remote & new BCM

i got a new BCM and i was wondering, now that i have a new BCM will i need a tottaly different remote for the keyless entry? the RKE never worked even when i had the old BCM in too so im wondering if i should get a new remote anyway, but would i need to get a completely different remote or just buy the same kind, the remote's GM number is 10246216
