Camry 90 Noisy Weak Front Brakes,Leaking Brake Line

I have Toyota 1990 Camry,my car brakes are getting weaker and noisy day by day from front left side,I found leaking lines underside driving door area,I took my car to Toyota Service Shop, they refused to repair and said it's not worth to go for repair. Here is summary of inspection report.
Condition:Visual Brake Inspection
Correction:Visual Inspection of front brakes, lubricate caliper sliders and sand pads and rotors as necessary.

Recommendations:
----Car unsafe for road use, recommend tow from property and scrap---

Front brakes are metal to metal
Seized Caliper
Seized Wheel Cylinder
Brake lines leaking
Left Ball joint falling apart
Left wheel bearing

They did'nt written detail of items and what wheel(R/L,F/B) they talking.I went to National Exhaust to purcahse pads and rotor, they asked me ABS or Non ABS,I said to them it's old car, probably Non ABS.

Can anyone help me what items need to be replaced so that I will purcahse it and then fix it myself/friend's help.

Re: Camry 90 Noisy Weak Front Brakes,Leaking Brake Line

Welcome to the AF!

First of all, figure out if you have ABS or not. It was an option on that vehicle. Have you ever locked the wheels braking and screeched to a halt? If so, you don't have ABS.

They are undoubtably talking about the wheel that has the bad caliper (front left).

You need new or used

New Caliper
New Ball joint
New wheel bearing
New or used Rotor or resurface
New Pads if worn or damaged - replace both Left and Right front if necessary to replace left
New Brake line if faulty - may be leaking at connection which is possibly fixable.

Parallel Tubes running front to back under drivers seat

There are number of// tubes running under driver seat front to back. So,if we count from outer side, which number is taking what kind of fluid/oil.This is to know exactly what kind of fluid is leaking.
I went to Toyota Service Center, those on desk were not aware of what kind of brake (ABS or no ABS) my Camry have?Mechanics were on lunch. It seems that it's Toyota's policy to recommend tow/scrap for all 2nd hand cars.I don't know why Transport Ministry approve car deal without looking Car safety and durability.
If we do a quik calculus more than 50% of 2nd hand cars running on highways are scrap/need to be towed.
Anyway,I checked National Exhaust and required barke parts alone costing Can$450,I went to a mechanic, who will fix barkes @ overall cost of $400.
I have seen oil leakages under driver's seat, left front wheel, calliper is to be replaced.
What I learn a lesson that I must start to enter in Automotive Mechanics field.

Re: Camry 90 Noisy Weak Front Brakes,Leaking Brake Line

To figure out if you have ABS or not, look at the inboard side of the front wheel. If you have ABS, you will have a speed sensor with a wire attached to it bolted to the backing plate at the 5 o'clock position of the inside of the wheel. For reference, the brake caliper is at the 9 o'clock to 11 o'clock position looking from outboard inward. Also, if you have ABS, you will have an ABS actuator between the front right wheel (passenger) and the front right headlight.

Two of the lines you see under the driver's seat are brake lines to the rear wheels. Probably two are fuel lines. If they are fuel lines, they will go to the fuel tank. If they are brake lines, they will go to the wheels.

He cahrged Can$400 lumpsum for:
Fixing new thin tubes for brakes: 180
Calliper(Probably used one)Ft-L: 70
Pads-Rotors for Ft. L: 60+90 150

Over above cost,he asked to fix Wheel baering@$180,L-Ball Jt.($80) next time.
What do u think about his prices.
He rufused to handover old calliper, otherwise I have to pay an additional $30.
Any law governing to know reliablility/prices and durability of works done by so many mechanics spread all around.

I wouldn't complain about the prices. It's good you found a mechanic who will accept installing used parts. I hope you said thank you.

Can I make Car on Neutral to avoid placing foot on brakes especially at signals/stoppages.
