2002 Tracker EGR Valve

Hi. I have this 2002 tracker (2.0 L - 4 Cyl). 75000 KMs and the motor started stalling when coming to a stop. I took it into the dealer and they advise that the EGR valve needs replacing. (From reading I've done already, this usually doesn't happen until much later in the car's life). I have two questions: 1. Is it reasonable for the dealer to charge $600.00 to replace and install new EGR.
2. I got into a fender bender (front end damaged a little) at Christmas time last year. Could this have caused this part to go early? Or was it probably a manufacturer defective part?

THanks for any help you can provide.

Re: 2002 Tracker EGR Valve

i think that is way too much money for an egr valve.get manual and do it yourself. the egr valve is usaully held on by two bolts. not exactly sure where it is located on the 2002 tracker but could be by intake manifold.

Re: 2002 Tracker EGR Valve

you should check your warranty on the emissions part it may be covered because it is an emission part.some cars are cover over five year for emissions parts.

Re: 2002 Tracker EGR Valve

Charging $600 is way too much for a new EGR valve. However the valve is quite expensive ($200-$300), it only takes about 20 min to install. The valve is easy to get to and anyone with novice skills should be able to replace it.
