Question 2001 Transmission ??

Ok here is the question as best I can describe it:

Our 2001 LS has a noise emanating from the Transmission. It starts at around 90 KPH(55 Mph) and is a whinning sound which goes away when you take your foot off the gas, but immediately comes back when you press the gas. So far it seems the tranny is changing properly from 1-2-3rd, I am not sure about overdrive, I will be trying a test, shift from 3rd to "D" at highway speed to see if it is going into 4th... Seems it started after a bad shift on the highway coming home from long trip, very back clunking when we slowed quickly from higher speed.

Anybody else experienced this type of problem? Hoping it does not lead to tranny rebuild!

Angry

Turns out 4th(overdrive is gone) to fix will require tran rebuild. quotes have been from 1500 to 3000 depending on how many parts need to be replaced. Found out that the part that died in our venture - GM cheaped out on for the vans- chev,pontiac,olds... it is a known problem the steel is not hardened enough and almost everyone can expect it sooner or later, am now considering dropping van and looking at other vehicles!!! The mechanic actually said they would use a aftermarket part which is made properly, to not self destruct...
