Love the car, worried about gas!

Up till now I've driven FWD and RWD, both foreign and both with 4 cylinders. But ever since I saw and heard the Iroc-Z models, I've wanted one. Yes I could afford plenty of better passenger cars but the Camaro's grabbed my interest more than anything. Don't Ask why, why else would I be here?

So I'm asking the dreaded taboo question of how the 305's and 350's are for those of you who drive one. This is one of the first things I heard out of a guy selling an RS with a modified tbi "If you're worrying about gas, why are you calling?". Because I really want a Camaro!!!

So, how bad is the mileage? And for the hell of it,Would you go on a road trip with one?

Re: Love the car, worried about gas!

well 4th gen camaros are better on gas than 3rd gen, because of the technology. I know my dads vette (LT1 motor, thats why im mentioning it) gets 22 MPG. My 92 firebird gets 18 mpg on a good day.

Re: Love the car, worried about gas!

27 is my highest on the highway, and around 20-22 around town is usual, probalby more if i didn't have a lead foot. i've got a 305 tbi with headers, 3in exaust so that helps out too. before the exaust i was getting around 17-20 around town and about 24 on the highway. it's not that bad

Surprised

Looks like it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I thank everyone that gave me a better perspective. And it's good to know that exhaust helps mileage!

Re: Love the car, worried about gas!

I had a 91 rs with a 305 and got about 20 mpg. Then I got a 90 iroc with a 350 and it was about the same. I took mine on a trip from Oregon to southern California. I loved it. You melt in the seat and just go for it.

exaust helps as long as you can resist the urge to floor it everywhere cause it sounds so much better . a less restrictive intake underdrive pullies, and a tune up will all help gas milage. oh yea and chip work helps but that kinda sorta goes with the tune up

Re: Love the car, worried about gas!

*whimper* I usually get about 8 mpg.... but it hasn't moved in months - needs trans rebuild. Not sure whether to upset about the gas mileage or not being able to drive it.

Yeah I get about 24 with my 92 ... unless I wanna have fun, then it's more like 10.

Re: Love the car, worried about gas!

Honestly, I've never checked the mileage on any of the camaros I've owned.
I figure if you want to drive it ya gotta feed it & knowing a mileage number wont change how much . Mine is probably a lot less than it outta be but i always have my foot in it pretty good and have a lot of fun doing it!
